This tragicomedy follows four college graduates as they merrily make their way in 1930s Shanghai. When war with Japan and some very grown-up tragedies intervene, though, the group takes a fresh look at their lives.   Gorgeous sets and costumes from director Shen Xiling, who was a stage designer and trained in fine arts before he turned to the cinema.
